Sing, Sing a Song Saturday

Sing, Sing a Song Saturday is all about me discovering something that is different. I don't want to post things that you and I have more than likely heard before. I want to find something different. It could be from another country, someone singing from the streets of NY, and more.

I've seen videos of flashmobs, but this one is the biggest I've seen yet! Banco Sabadell of Spain celebrated their 130th anniversary with a flashmob. An Orchestra Simfònica del Vallès and various local choirs were in on the performance. They sang and played Beethoven's Ode to Joy.

A little girl gives a coin to a street performer, and gets a surprise in return. Was it staged? Yes, but the people walking in the streets didn't know what was about to happen. That just makes it so wonderful.

The singing and the music is all real.

This same Orchestra Simfònica del Vallès hired graffiti artists to make an image of Beethoven, while they played.

Random Tid Bits

  1. One night this week we played a game called Family Talk. I strongly recommend it! It takes up very little room, and gets your family talking. I won it sometime, somewhere. Mica's answers to the questions were cracking me up.

Question: What's the highest compliment someone could give you?
Answer: How smart I am. *Note: Mica has a crush on a girl at school that's new and in the other class. Why does he like her? Because she's gotten a Principle's Award twice this year. That must mean she's good, and smart.

Question: What's your favorite food that your Grandma makes?
Answer: Those mini pizza's she gives us. *Note My mom buys those mini pizza's. She makes plenty of home cooked meals. I had to call her and tell her Mica's answer to that one. Her response: "Yuck!"

  2. I've been trying to help Isaak clean his room. He had a lot of stuff, and I have to say that I found out it was mostly papers that were taking over his room. I filled up 1 paper bag full of papers.

  3. Dad was convinced Isaak could clean his room by himself. Sometimes kids need help with an overhaul. Isaak's room needed just that. I got rid of 2 bins. Dad said, "Are you sure he doesn't need them?" I said, "No because he just stuffs them with papers."

  4. I said to Isaak, "Can we put your glitter glue here?" pointing to where his craft stuff is at. He said, "Mom there's gold in there. I like that, so maybe we should leave it out, so I can look at it. He's so silly!

  5. Mr. Potato Head, Joey, a put it together airplane, and a mosaic tile picture set went to my co-worker that has newish grandsons. Isaak just wasn't playing with them. I happened to like Joey, the airplane, and the tile set. Mr. Potato Head was just ok. Isaak never did play with any of those toy sets very much. If you have kids, what's something that you liked, that they never really played with?

Asthma

The Influenza I had hated me. I think it's gone.

I have a lingering dry cough that I just can't get rid of. I've tried drinking it away with a lot of water, tea, and Emergen-C drinks. I've did the neti pot twice a day, and the cough just lingered.

I think my sickness I had aggravated my asthma. It's happened before. Now I'm puffing my inhaler, and taking some allergy meds just until I can get it under control. I don't have asthma all the time. I just get it in the cold, if I'm sick, or if my allergies are really bad. The sad thing is that since I don't have asthma all the time - when I do need my inhaler it's expired.

I still haven't gotten my new insurance cards - we switched insurance. From what I understand, the inhalers don't really go bad, they just weaken. I've only puffed the thing for 1 1/2 days, and it's helped. I coughed stuff up, and can breathe again without sounding like someone that's smoked for years (when I don't smoke at all).

Isaak has been great for a week now. He's all over Influenza.

The Best Breakfast Cookies

I'm always trying different things for breakfast that will also work great for snacks. Last weekend I made breakfast cookies. I made 2 batches because they sounded so good. Then I kept them in the refrigerator to last throughout the week.

I knew this week would be draining for me, since I started teaching a new semester.

I have to say that these are the best breakfast cookies I've ever made! They were a hit with the whole family! They are gluten free, egg free, filled with protein, and yummy!

Breakfast Cookies

These cookies work great for a snack to! The boys are always hungry after they've been at the Y. These cookies are loaded with protein, and don't have a lot of sugar! I kind of think of honey similar to sugar. It is local honey I used. I didn't use peanut butter, or almond butter that is made with added sugar. Bananas are more of a starchy fruit, which turns to sugar, but do contain potassium.

I used a coffee grinder to grind up my flaxseed. I've read that it's better to eat flaxseed that is ground up right before you use it. I don't have almond flour, or oat flour on hand, so I just ground both of them in my food processor when a recipe calls for them.

Of course we had other things with them: A Green Smoothie, Steamed Kale, A Fried Egg, Pomegranate Seeds (for Isaak and I), Blueberries (for Mica), A Banana (for Dad), and Black Coffee (for Mom and Dad).

These were a hit!

They do have a banana taste to them, but are harder like a cookie.

WW: Muscle Man {Linky}

My boys were fighting over this muscle man. They have plenty of toys. I said, "If you two can't stop fighting over this toy. He's mine."

I'm now asking myself, Why were they fighting over this toy? I wouldn't want to mess with this man if I saw him on the street.

He has bright pink spandex shorts.

His face is as mean as can be.

One of my students saw him in my computer bag and said, "Why do you have a toy in your computer bag Mrs. Apel?" I said, "I took it because my sons wouldn't stop fighting over it." My assistant and my student played with the toy for 10 minutes. I have no idea where it originally came from.

Do you have any toys laying around that you have no idea where they came from?

Ozeri Ultra 42 inch Wind Fan Review

My husband AKA Dad always likes a fan going at all times when we sleep. I can't stand it. I just don't like the noise of one blowing. When I found out that they make a fan that's quiet I was like, "Yes! I want that!"

Ozeri Ultra 42 inch Wind Fan was sent to me to review. It's an adjustable oscillating tower fan with noise reduction technology. Now Dad gets his fan, and I don't have to listen to a lot of noise. It's a win, win situation.

I'm not that handy with putting things together. This wasn't that hard. All you need is a phillips screwdriver. They say that you don't need any tools, but I wanted to make sure the screws were tight. Ozeri provides everything else for you.

The stand is attached first.

Then the base is attached. The cord runs through the pieces.

I love that the remote fits right into the top of the fan. That makes it less easy to loose.

The remote came with batteries. I don't remember the last time I got a product where it required batteries, and I didn't have to supply them.

What We Think:
  • The functions were pretty easy. Actually Mica took over, he turned the fan on, and adjusted the air flow. What I love is that the fan is quiet. There are 3 settings, and they all sound like a whisper in the room.
  • I also think it's great that the fan is stylish, and doesn't take up a lot of room. Most fans you have to prop up on a table, not this one. It's lean, stands tall, and has a sturdy base.
  • The fan has a LED screen with room temperature display. I like that it's LED because it will last longer. Sometimes when things are digital I worry more about things breaking.
  • Includes 12 hour timer that can be programmed in 1 hour increments with push-button ease, and an enhanced-range remote control that conveniently stores in the fan. I'm not sure how much we'll use this feature. It is nice to program it when we are going to bed. It can turn off 1 hour after we drift off to sleep.

Ozeri Ultra 42 inch Wind Fan was originally $149.95 and is on sale for $99.95.
