Sayings

We've all had crazy sayings when we were little. I remember saying, "Eenie meenie miney moe catch a tiger by his toe..." Then we said, "Step on a crack, and you break your Momma's back."

Mica has been saying, "Easy pleasy mac and cheesy." Isaak has been saying, "Made you, made you look, now you're in a baby book."

What's something you said when you were a kid?

Sing, Sing a Song Saturday

Sing, Sing a Song Saturday is all about me discovering something that is different. I don't want to post things that you and I have more than likely heard before. I want to find something different. It could be from another country, someone singing from the streets of NY, and more.

Have you ever heard of Heidi Joubert? She may not be famous in main stream music, but she sure is among Cajón Box Artists. One person started following my music board on Pinterest, and had he pinned all over it. I of course had to check her out.

She lives in London. She's from South Africa. Her current band is called Fernando’s Kitchen.

Their band is a unique fusion of Flamenco, North African and Latin sounds inspired by the streets of London. They Refer to their music as ‘Nu World Fusion’, they have blended influences from several musical traditions to create their unique sound. It's June, so...

at our house that means 3 things:

1. It's my birthday month. That's not to say I spend all month celebrating my birthday. I just celebrate whenever everyone has the time. My birthday gets celebrated with my nephew Emerson's birthday. He'll be 3 this year. I'll be closer to 40. My birthday is the first day of summer. Well some could argue that the 22nd is the first day of summer. I think it depends on the moon. My birthday is the 21st. Depending on what literature I'm looking at I'm a Gemini, and others say I'm a Cancer. Again I'm stuck in the middle.

2. It's Father's Day Month. Again it's celebrated whenever everyone has time.

3. It's Juneberry picking time. I've already filled two gigantic quart bags full of berries. I enjoy picking berries. It is time consuming though. It's either I pick them, or the birds fly through and eat them. I'd like to try out my new canning stuff I got last year as a present. I'll make more Juneberry Jam. It works great for teacher's gifts, and random Christmas presents. I was even thinking of making Juneberry Syrup, or trying to. Then I'll make Oatmeal Superfood Power Bars to. What would you make with them? They can be replaced with any blueberry recipe. I just have to be careful because I don't want to make things that have tons of sugar. I'm safe with jam because I'm giving it away.

Random Tid Bits

  1. This week we'll talk about my flaws. We all have them. I get then and than mixed up. The more I think about those two words, the more confused I get about them.

  2. I'm HORRIBLE with directions. Last week I went downtown to a play. It should have been fun. All I could think about was, What if I get lost? What if I can't find a spot to park? What if I can't find my car afterwards? By the way I got there just fine! The other was to a graduation for my work. No one seemed to know where it was at. I got there fine to. I was feeling anxious all week. I told the Director of the college, "See this is why I don't schedule very many field trips. If I can't get places, how in the heck to I give my students good directions in getting from point A to point B?" I really need to get out more.

I'm so glad my husband rocks with directions. Although I do have to say that once I know where I'm going I'm better with getting places than he is. He goes in a lane that has a big utility vehicle in it, or the lane where everyone slows down to get on the interstate when we don't have to, and sometimes he takes a scenic route just because he forgets where we are going entirely.

  3. I don't wear very much makeup, I'm not a girl that paints my nails, and I let my hair go natural. I have frosted grey highlights.  I don't know if all this is bad. It's just me. In fact I get complimented on my grey hair because it's so even.

  4. I'm not sympathetic when it comes to my kids getting shots. Is that bad? Some moms put on Facebook, "My poor son got his shots today. It melted my heart!" I think, Well it's better than getting Polio, Meningitis, Chicken Pox which isn't too bad, but leads to Shingles, which is horrible, Whopping Cough, Measles, and more. Suck it up they cried for less than 5 minutes. If they got something horrible they could be dead. I have that same conversation with both my boys when we're walking into the doctor's office when they are about to get a shot. They understand how serious things can get with illnesses. I also remind them of how I got allergy shots once a week when I was their ages. Yes I hid, but I neglect to tell them that part.

  5. On the opposite of my pro vaccinations, I have my doubts about them to. Like, hummmm...what's in them? In that aspect I wish I knew what they are injecting in my boys. The government lets all kinds of crap in our food, and skin products, maybe they do the same with our vaccinations. Do you ever think about this? My mom had Polio, and Isaak had Meningitis, so my pro shots way over powers my anti shots. Trust me you don't want to get one of those things!

  6. Lastly I find myself in the middle of most things. I blame this on being a middle child. I grew up in the middle of my difficult older sister (whom I shared a room with) and my parents. I was in the middle of my oldest sister and my youngest sister. I usually try and see things from more than one side. Kind of a Cubistic approach. You'd think that many people would like that I do that. I'm trying to understand them, and their situation. Really it ends up pissing people off. They want me to choose them and their situation. When I bring up the other side to what they think is wrong, or right they automatically think I'm against them. I'm not. I'm just trying to make them see the light to what else is out there.  I'm trying to open their perspective so to speak. The way I describe my views on vaccinations is how I think about most things. I think about the pros and the cons. I have a mixed thought on them in the end. I make a stand on the side that makes more since to me.

The Rose: Tarzan Review

I've been asked twice to go to The Rose. The first time I was asked I was teaching a class. This time I was free. YAY!

We headed out to see Tarzan! It's going to be at the Rose from now until the 22nd.

I was so excited for this event. The boys loved the Disney movie Tarzan. The play is based on the Disney Film. Music and lyrics are by Phil Collins and the book is by David Henry Hwang. I just knew they'd love the play.

It was a surprise event. That made it all the more fun!

It's for ages 4-11. My boys are ages 6, and 8. They get into theater events. During this time they were both finishing up an acting class at Omaha Community Playhouse. It was perfect for both of them.

The Rose is such a pretty building!

They loved checking out the Tarzan poster.

It's a good idea to get to any show early. There's always things to look at in the lobby, take the kids to the restroom, and check out the stage. I helped out with set design in high school. That's something I really get into. Tarzan had an amazing set designer(s).

They had apes jumping all over the aisles before the play, and during the intermission. Mica who begs to go to haunted houses (which he hasn't been) was afraid of the apes. Not to worry, he was fine. I thought it was hilarious when one came up and tapped him on the shoulder. He shrilled like a little girl that just saw a spider. Isaak and I were both laughing uncontrollably.

The boys liked the small Tarzan - Graham Waterstraat the best. I'm thinking it's because he is closest to their age. He did do a great job!

Here is the little Tarzan with his Ape faux Mother Kala - Camille Metoyer Moten. She seemed so kind, and familiar.

This is the older Tarzan - Ryan Heidenreich. His voice carried so well.

I thought the faux Dad Kercheck - Roderick Colton had an amazing voice. To me so much of the play is about the relationship between Kercheck and Tarzan. Tarzan longs for acceptance. Kercheck doesn't let him in. One could say that he isn't a father figure to Tarzan at all. Seeing how Tarzan looks up to him I think he is.

Tarzan spotted people just like him, they are both friend and foe. He ends up falling for the girl, Jane - Megan Leigh Pattison below.

Part of what I love about theater is how the audience starts to accept the unreal as real. In the show actors came out as flowers. I simply looked at them as flowers instead of people. The apes were brightly colored, but they jumped around as apes, so I accepted them as such.

If you haven't had a chance to visit the Rose, do so. Tarzan is an amazing play that will hold boys and girls attention. The show runs for 2 hours, that includes an intermission.

The Flock House Omaha Project

Daddy has been working on a project off and on all of May. An artist from New York  named Mary Mattingly headed up the project. She makes what are called Flock Houses. What they are, are little home structures that can be put up, and taken down. They are homes for our ever crowded world. Each Flock House is made with a limited budget. Many of the resources were things that were reused materials.

There were many volunteer artists that helped Mary out with her Flock House project. Each group had 1 hour to come up with a plan. Daddy's plan got chosen. He helped on the project as much as he could. There was a time frame. Not everything that he envisioned ended up being part of the project. Many things were.

We went to north Omaha, and downtown to check out what Daddy had been working on.

First we visited the Flock House in North Omaha. This Flock House is the bigger one of the two. There was a slight problem. It rained pretty hard that morning. They still didn't put on a sealant, so the floor got wet. They locked the doors, so no one could get in. I know the boys wanted to go in there.

 There are screened windows.

Just looking up in the ceiling and floor of the Flock Houses is pretty interesting. The light bounces around.

Then we headed to the Flock House downtown. To get there we walked through Jean Leahy Mall. I've never understood why they call it a mall. It's a park, but whatever. They just cleaned out the water for the ducks, so it looks really nice. They have giant metal slides, that kids and adults bring wax paper to go faster on, but we didn't go on them that day.

Here's the Flock House at the Bemis Center Contemporary Arts downtown.

The boys were occupied. They dug tunnels for ants to live in. They were working on this ant home for a long time.

Daddy decided to help with the Flock House. He was working. I didn't know he was going to be busy working. I thought we were just seeing the Flock Houses.

Everything was good. All the sudden Mica was bored, so I showed him videos on my camera. Then the next thing I knew Isaak was inside the Flock House with a stick, trying to go through the screen of the window. I grabbed him, and he decided it would be a great idea to play tag with Mom. See the plants below? Isaak jumped over those. YIKES! I grabbed him. Mica, Isaak and I all went for a walk. So much of me doesn't blame Isaak. Both kids were being so good! He is a boy after all. He went to sleep late the night before. I had no clue Daddy planned to actually spend a lengthy time there.

Off we went for a walk, shopping, and ice cream. I simply love looking at buildings downtown...

and in the Passage Way.

After our third, or fourth shop Daddy called to tell me he was ready to go home.

It's funny when men want to go home. Here I wanted to go when Isaak was trying to play tag with me. Now I was happy and content, and Daddy barges in, and had to leave.

Mica and I were having fun looking in City Limits. It's a fun shop filled with mustache pacifiers, Jesus action figures, Ben Franklin dolls, Mad Libs books, face plates, and more. It kind of reminds me of Uncommon Goods, but less artsy and more funny. Daddy got there and we had to leave. He tried telling us that a storm was coming in to get us out of the store. When I got outside it looked the same as it had all day outside. When a guy wants to leave it's now. When a girl wants to leave she has to wait.

Isaak insisted he wasn't tired. Then this happened:

Making a ant home, walking around, running around the Flock Houses, and eating ice cream wore him out!

UNi 100% Organic Pure Moroccan Argan Oil 2oz Review

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I really love putting oil on my skin over lotion. It's great to help maintain frizzy hair as well. I just think it works better than lotions and conditioners.

Recently I got UNi 100% Organic Pure Moroccan Argan Oil 2oz to Review.

I really love that this oil can be used on hair, and skin. Some oils are one or the other.

Ingredients in UNi Argan Oil:

I like when companies do not have a ton of ingredients in their products. I feel this way about products I put on my skin, hair, food and drink products.
  • It's 100% pure organic.
  • It's made from Moroccan Argan Trees.
  • It is cold pressed and unroasted.
  • It comes rich in Vitamin E.

About UNi Argan Oil
  • It has a scent, but it's not strong. So many people are sensitive to scents, so I am happy it's not strong.
  • It helps hydrate, protect and restore elasticity to all hair types. As I've aged my hair has gotten frizzy. I think UNi Argan Oil helps maintain that quality of my hair I don't like. It helps to apply it when your hair is clean, and damp. If you use for your hair, you don't need to use conditioner. This is a leave in conditioner.
  • Large concentration of fatty acids and antioxidants restore the appearance of dull skin, hair, body, scalp, cracking and peeling of nails. I've been using this on Mica's dry chin, and it seems to be helping. I also have a dry forehead, and have been using it for that.
  • It's non greasy.
  • It goes on smooth.
  • A little goes a long way.
  • It's really easy to apply. Even my 8 year old Mica had no problems applying it.
The Manufacturing of UNi Argan Oil:

It's manufactured in the Kingdom of Monrocco and packaged in the USA. The manufactured date is printed on every bottle with a shelf life of 36 months. UNi Argan Oil are manufactured and bottled throughout the year to ensure freshness and quality. UNi Argan Oil comes in a beautiful smooth dark glass bottle with easy access dropper.

Where to get it?

UNi Argan Oil is sold on Amazon. The original price was $35.99 and it's marked down all the way to $13.95! What a steel for something so pure and wonderful.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
