Sing, Sing a Song Saturday

Sing, Sing a Song Saturday is all about me discovering something that is different to post. I don't want to post things that you and I have more than likely heard before. I want to find something different. It could be from another country, someone singing from the streets of NY, and more.

This week I'm posting someone that many of you won't know. It's a street drummer. He drums on buckets. His hands stay super busy. He's the best drummer I've ever seen I think. He can play a regular drum set, but the most interesting to watch (in my opinion) is him playing on buckets.

His name is Gordo. Also known as Gordo Drummer. Gordo has a wide variety of influences: Buddy Rich Tony Williams, Stewert Copeland, Carter Beauford, Jon Fishman, John Bonham, Steve Smith Dave Weckle, Jimmy Chamberlin, Bill Buford, Dennis Chambers,Will Calhoun, Matt Cameron, Steve Gadd, Aton Fig, Simon Phillips,Omar Hakim, Steve Jordan, Gary Novak, Scot Coogan, the list really goes on and on.

Source
He lives in Sydney, Australia. Another crazy fact about Gordo is that he can speak in Japanese. He studied at the Tokyo School of Music.

Wasn't his performance just sweet?

In case you want to learn ;), this video he shows some of his tips:

Ringworm

It started a week or so. We noticed a mark on Mica's neck. We just assumed it was eczema.

Both boys battled eczema when they were babies on their heads from all the antibiotics that were pumped down them when they had their major illnesses (Mica had a staph infection in his neck and Isaak had meningitis). We gave them probiotics and the eczema decreased big time.

I decided to try probiotics once again. Mica took them. Usually eczema starts to fade soon after, but doesn't go away until you take them for a few weeks.

Mica's spot didn't diminish. In fact it got worse. I was starting to wonder what to do with this stubborn eczema spot?

Then that night I noticed the spot was a perfect circle. The raised area went down, and it had a ring and circle inside the ring. Ringworm came to my mind right away when I saw that. Take a look at his neck.

By the way I had to educated myself. Ringworm isn't from worms.

Ringworm is common, especially among children. However, it may affect people of all ages. It is caused by a fungus, not a worm like the name suggests.

Many bacteria and fungi live on your body. Some of these are useful, while others can cause infections. Ringworm occurs when a type of fungus called tinea grows and multiplies on your skin.

I imagine with dry chapped skin, you can get bacteria and fungi pretty easy.

Daddy spent the morning taking Mica to the doctor's office. I called the school to let them know. It is contagious, but the doctor didn't seem too concerned. It's not like Mica will be rubbing necks with other kids. He didn't go back to school. They only had a 1/2 day today anyhow.

I never knew it was a common thing among kids. I also was also mislead by its name. Seriously...why did they have to add worm in the name?

Mica has an over the counter cream to apply 4 times a day. I'm glad we had him go to the doctor. Even if it's over the counter meds, I feel better that we're treating him for the right thing.

Have you are anyone you know ever had Ringworm?

Random Tid Bits

  1. Daddy hates bow ties. He thinks they are lame, and pictures Tucker Carlson when it comes to bow ties. I think of artsy people like Johnny Depp, and other actors. I recently watched the Beatles tribute, and Sean Lennon had a bow tie on. He looked slick, and artsy.

  2. Do you like bow ties? Am I alone in liking them?

  3. We had our garbage disposal break a few times. Now we use a strainer bought at Ace Hardware. For a buck, this thing works so good! We've been using it for 2 or 3 years now. It collects so much stuff. I just pitch the food it collects into our compost pile. A high pressure hose cleans it out well!

  4. Source

  5. Mica doesn't know I know that he "loves" Melissa Gilbert; when she was his age on Little House on the Prairie. I left my knowledge of that quiet. He said to me one morning this week, "Mom I just can't stop dreaming about Melissa Gilbert on Little House on the Prairie." I said, "Oh really." Then giggled to myself.

Who was your first actor/singer crush? To be honest I don't even remember my first one. I liked Ralph Matcchio in Karate Kid. Now he's odd looking to me. I liked Kurt Cameron on Growing Pains. He's just strange to me now.

  6. I asked Isaak if he likes snakes? He said, "They creep me out Mom!" I've always liked them. They have such interesting patterns on them. It's so cool that they can move around without legs, wings, or fins. I never been a furry animal lover because I can't be. They close up my lungs. They are cute on screen. I guess I'm sort of the same way with snakes. I'm not sure I'd want to have one as a pet because of what they eat, and some are super poisonous. They are certainly pretty!

  7. I've never been able to whistle, yet I won a whistling contest once. We had to eat a ton of crackers at camp, and whoever whistled first won the contest. I let out a little 1/2 assed whistle, and won. I can't carry a tune what so ever with whistling. I can with singing though.

Happy Valentines Day!

The boys celebrated Valentines Day yesterday at school. Isaak was a little sad I couldn't go. I've made it to the Gingerbread House making event, their holiday concert, the Fall Festival, their Open House, Game Night, Doughnut's for Mom, and more. I told him, "Honey I'm sorry, but I just can't make it for everything. Isaak is much more sensitive than Mica about me being there. I wish I could be.

The boys wore their Valentine robot shirts yesterday.  Isaak's shirt says, "My Heart Beats..." then there's a window that opens and says, "For You!" Mica's shirt says, "Mr. Irresistible". I think their shirts are great! Mica even stands just like that robot.

I got that good photo. I was wanting more. Then I got this:

Bad photos crack me up sometimes.

Isaak was mad because Mica grabbed his neck a little too hard. Brothers! When Isaak is mad, he shows it! It takes him awhile to forgive.

I just got everyone in my family a small box of chocolates. We went out to dinner earlier this week. Do you have any plans?

Happy Valentines Day!!!

Isaak Likes Notes in His Lunchbox

One project I've wanted to do for awhile was paint chalkboard paint in my boy's metal lunch boxes.

I kept forgetting about it, or putting the project on the back burner.

Well...I finally did it.

I found that a sponge roller worked best. I need to go to the art supply store and get some chalk pencils. My boys have chalk on their easel, but it's really dull.

I did write a note for Isaak:

Have you/Do you leave notes in your kid's lunch boxes?

The chalk cleans off well with a damp paper towel. It's not the same as writing on a chalk board, but it's close. It doesn't seem to rub off with the travel of the lunch. I thought possibly my cloth sandwich bags would rub off the chalk. NOPE!

Swimming Baffled

Isaak has us baffled with swimming, yet again.

He's been lagging behind most of the other kids. His coach doesn't think it's because he can't do it. He thinks it's because Isaak chooses to go slow.

The slower he goes, the longer he can stay in the water.

We're not sure if he should go up, or stay at the same level in swimming.

Isaak always has been a slow child. Not slow, as in unable. Slow because it's relaxing, and easier.

Here he is during his boat safety week:

WW: Pirate Ship {Linky}

This weekend we had some cousin time. Two of my nephews that are the same ages as my boys stayed the night.

I first took them to Arby's. I had a coupon for 3 roast beef sandwiches for $5. Forget the kid's meals, the 8 year olds ate one adult sandwich by themselves. The 5 year olds split one. They got 1 small fry to split for each age group. No scraps were left.

The little blond, 5 year old Elijah kept on talking at night when it was bed time. It's the most I've heard him talk ever. He wouldn't talk to me when he was up and moving. I threatened to call him something that he doesn't go by "Eli" if he wouldn't respond, and then he started answering me.

They attempted to go sledding at 7 in the morning. The older boys were on top of that. They got ready in a hurry. The younger boys were too busy playing with a marble track. As soon as the big boys were out the door, the little boys were in the scramble to get their stuff on to go sledding to. The idea was to keep them busy, while I was made breakfast. It didn't work to well. They were back in the house in 15 minutes.

Daddy made a pirate ship out of our new toilet box, other random boxes, and pillow cases. That kept them busy, while I made breakfast.

Nephew Evan on the lookout.

Mica posing crazy like.

My favorite because he looks so little in the ship. I just love it because he was the most into it. It was his idea to have a pirate patch. Isaak being a cute pirate.

Do you ever make things out of boxes? If you want to see more box inventions check out the boy's box apparent here, the boy's box seats here, and my favorite, the boy's coolest box spaceship here. The toy store Fat Brain Toys has a section on their site to post box inventions. If you are interested here is where you can go to see what crazy things people have made out of cardboard boxes.

Lego Movie

I'm not here to spoil a movie for you. Have you seen the Lego Movie yet?

We tried going on Sunday. I wanted to try going to this theater that was newly remodeled. We went at 11:30 AM, and they didn't have any seats seats other than in the front row until 3:30 PM. I know it just came out on Friday, but I wasn't expecting it to be so busy on a Sunday morning.

Off to another theater we went. Daddy left his Smart fancy phone at home. We only had my old school one 99 cent one. He was highly irritated. He says that leaving his phone at home is like leaving his keys behind. The next theater we went to had only a birthday party in the parking lot. I guess they didn't open until 12:30. There was no sign saying their hours. Since Daddy didn't have his phone he couldn't look online at tickets, and hours of operation.

We rushed home so Daddy could get tickets online. I made lunch. 1:30 was our scheduled destination.

After all that rushing...we got to the theater, and there were only two other families there. The theater did end up getting full. There were a lot of people coming in closer to the movie. I don't know if the seating wasn't busy because the theater we went to was in a different part of town, or if it was because it didn't have stadium seating like the other theater? Regardless the reason we got good viewing seats. Our boys went from disappointed, to being happy.

Here are some selfie's.

Isaak was sticking his tongue out in one, and kissy face in the other. Goof ball!

The boys loved the movie! They have it offered in 3D, which we saw the regular one. Isaak hardly wants to keep the 3D glasses on. I imagine the 3D version is sweet!

Source
The message is positive. It's about one group of people wanting to leave things the same all the time, and others wanting change.

I'm giving it 4 stars. The boys would give it 5.

The boys went home and played with Legos until we had dinner ready. :)

BowlingShoes.com Review

I was sent bowling shoes from BowlingShoes.com. I enjoy bowling. Do I consider myself a bowling pro? No. It's still a fun thing to do with the family.

There's something about renting shoes I can't stand. Those shoes were on many people's feet. Like the ones below. I'm happy to say that I now have a pair of my own.

The only difficult part about picking out shoes online is that I have no clue what size my feet really are. My feet have grown since I've had kids. Then I got special arch supports to wear in my shoes because my left ankle turns in. I was having to buy bigger shoes to compensate for the supports. Well the shoes fit a little loose, which is great. If I get to a point where I can't walk without my supports, there is room in these shoes for the supports.

If their products don't work out, they have a 30 day return policy.

I got the Elite Retro Bowling Shoes for Women. They are $42.99.

The shoes are much more comfortable than shoes you rent!
They seem very supportive. Ones that I've rented in the past felt like I was putting on cardboard.

The only thing I wish they had more of was laces. The laces seem shorter on my right foot for some reason. I'd rather the laces being shorter than longer though. Then I'd be tripping on them!

The bottoms of the shoes have a high endurance felt.
I wasn't sliding around with them, but glided nicely.

Things That bowlingShoes.com Offers For Both Men and Women:
  • Bowling Shoes
  • Bowling Bags
  • Bowling Balls
  • Bowling Excessories
  • Bowling Gloves
  • Bowling Towels
  • Bowling Cleaners and Polishes
  • Grips and Inserts
  • Bowling Book and Videos
  • Bowling Gifts
  • Bowling Ball Maintenance
  • Drilling Service
If you have a bowler in your house check out BowlingShoes.com. I know my Brother-in-law is crazy about bowling. I'm going to share this site, and blog post with my sister.

Do you, or someone in your family like to go bowling?
