ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Someone couldn't stay awake when the boys watched a movie. Mica kept saying, "Dad you have to watch this part! It's so funny!" Daddy must of had dust in his eyes, that's what he says when he can't keep his eyes open.

Isaak is wearing shorts.

Sing, Sing a Song Saturday

I started doing what I call Sing, Sing a Song Saturday.  I'm going to post one song on Saturdays that the boys or I like.

The song may be part of a movie, a kid's video or just a song we like. I'll try and include why we like it and/or the history of the song/singer.

I know I usually try to cover newer bands/musicians. Today I'm not. Today I'm talking about a song that was written before I was born.

My co-worker was listening to Carly Simon's, Your So Vain. He sliced the beginning out of the song to put into an animation program. Simply as a demo for his students. He magnified the sound and instead of hearing cymbals like he thought it was, he heard talking that sounded like cymbals.

He called me over and said, "You have better ears than I do (very true:); what is she saying?" I listened once and Carly Simon in the very beginning of the song (where the cymbals are playing) says, "Son of a Gun!"

He didn't believe me. He thought she was saying an ex's name. I of course jumped on Google to figure it out. I was right. It's, "Son of a Gun!"

You don't even need to listen to the whole song if you don't want to. Just listen to the first few second with your sound as high as it can go. In the live versions Carly Simon doesn't sing, "Son of a Gun!"

Another fact about the song is that Mic Jagger sang back up at the end of the song. He was never listed on the credits. He sang backup just because they were friends. She never has revealed who the song was about. Many think Warren Betty.

Here she talks about how she came up with the lyrics. Also kind of interesting.

Janet Jackson must have heard, "Son of a Gun!" in the song. Later on she redid her completely own version of the song, and called it Son of a Gun. It sounds completely different. I've been too into Janet Jackson, but I feel like I do need to put this song on this post. It is so different from Carly Simons' song! It only makes reference to the song a few times (in the middle and the end).

Tonight I Was Sad For Isaak

Isaak was made fun of at school today. :(

First off the whole class was rather crazy acting, so they all lost out on on an extra recess. I guess Isaak wasn't acting out (so he tells me). He said, "I was good Mom."

Next he got made fun of from one boy in particular saying, "Isaak likes Maddie." I guess that kid was sent to his desk. Isaak's getting sick of him saying that.

Next Isaak drew a self portrait. All the people at his table laughed. I know they are Kindergarteners. They aren't mature. I don't know if the teacher heard the kids, or not. I will be jotting down some things in his daily folder. Really just a please watch out for this behavior. Being a teacher, hearing laughing, I would assume that the kids are having fun, enjoying the project. It wouldn't occur to me that they would be picking on someone's drawing. Do I blame the teacher? No. I just want her to know about the situation.

What were they making fun of? The fact that Isaak's eyes were so big in the drawing, the fact that he has eyelashes on his self portrait. Only girls have eyelashes. I know more guys that have longer lashes than girls do. Isaak happens to be one of them. Yes his eyes are big. I love his eyes. Do they look kind of funny in the drawing? Sure. But...who cares! He has a lot of detail in his drawing for age 5!

They made fun of the feet to. Isaak was wearing sandals today. He put the same pattern his shoes had on his drawn feet.

I told Isaak that I thought the drawing is great. I know it's not a master piece. He's 5. It's good for 5! I love his attention to detail! He seemed happy that I liked it.

I feel bad for Isaak! :(

My Big Eyed Beautiful Boy

Reading

Mica wanted me to read to him. I read a choose your own adventure story. Isaak wanted to be read to as well. I said, "Who do you want to read to you, Mica or me?"

He wanted Mica to read to him. By the way Mica is wearing pj shorts.

Mica was reading away. I heard him say to Isaak, "You better stop wiggling around! Otherwise I'm going to shut this book, and walk away." Isaak must of stopped wiggling. Mica kept reading. Mica kept asking Isaak question about what he just read. He's growing up!

Random Tid Bits

  1. I go out of my way to get to where I need to go; these days. Yep there is construction to and from work. It's so annoying. I am happy that in general it doesn't take me too long to get to places around here. It's not like we live in LA. It's taking twice as long to get to and from work now a days. Many people including me have decided to go down the next main street, which makes that congested as well.
  2. Mica told me last night that he wanted all the boys in jiu-jitsu to call him, "Mikey". Isaak started it. I call Isaak, "Zeek" and "Zeeky". Now Isaak calls Mica, "Mikey". Mica likes it because Michelangelo from Teenage Mutant Turtles goes by that nickname. Do I let this nickname go? On one hand it just seems strange to have him being called something that isn't his name. On the other hand Zeek isn't Isaak's name. How do you feel about nicknames?
  3. Mica's super excited because he was asked to help a new kid in school, feel welcomed. His teacher put the new kid's desk right next to Mica's. Mica loves that he's Asian. I don't know why. I guess it's because there are very little Asians in his school. He's honored that his teacher asked him to help this new kid. I'm honored that he's honored. :)
  4. Mica was also excited that he gets to go to a special class yesterday. It's for the (how do I say it?) brighter kids in the class. Isaak was sad. Isaak said, "I want to be one of the smartest kids in my class!" Isaak of course is in Kindergarten. They don't even know where kids fall in anything just yet. We needed to explain to Mica that it's great to be excited, but not to brag. I was the opposite in school. I was going to special classes, but it was because I was slow.
  5. Midterms are in two weeks - EKKK! It seems like we just started classes!

Nighttime

So...my boys and I have a problem. After about 4 pm the boys loose focus. After 9 pm I loose focus. Don't ask me to do anything in the kitchen after 9. I drop things then. Don't ask the boys to do too much where focus is needed after they get home from school.

We are more morning people.

On the opposite of that Daddy is a night owl. I used to be before kids arrived.

Mica asked me to create a list of things for him to do at bedtime. Then that way I'm not telling him over and over what to do. We're eliminating my nagging qualities, and helping them to remember.

I still have to work on Isaak's bedtime list. With his I actually need to include pictures, since he can't read just yet.

Here's Mica. Inside the "C" in Mica it says, "night" if you can't read it. I'm going to laminate them.

Some One is Addicted to Legos!

Mica flies his Advengers Quinjet and his Chima Raven all over the house. He's loaded with sound effects!

Now he wants Lone Ranger sets. He's never seen any movies old or new on the Lone Ranger. He knows every character and facts about Lone Ranger from his Lego magazine. One day he talked for 10 minutes straight on the phone to Grandma and Grandpa about the Lone Ranger.

The other day I was looking at things on Amazon. It stores your previous views. Of course I viewed a few Lego sets for Christmas time. Slap me silly, Mica was staring at my screen and saw my previous viewed things.

I'm hardly on the blog around him in fear he'd see a post like this that says what he's getting. It's for him to read when he gets older.

He was like, "I want to see the Lone Ranger sets!" Push the over button Mom, "WOW they make the Back to the Future Delorean?! I want that!" Well I wanted that to be a complete surprise. Dam you Amazon!

Later in the car Mica said, "When we get home can we go back to look at Am I iss n?"

I was like, "What?"

He said, "You know the thing on your computer, where we looked at the Lego sets. Am I iss n."

I said, "Oh you mean Amazon."

He said, "Ya! I want to see all the Lone Ranger things and the Delorean! I want all that stuff!"

WW: Full Cart {Linky}

Isaak got invited to his first friend Kindergarten birthday party. We decided to go Mulhall's Nursery, while we didn't have Isaak. We wanted to buy low growing plants for our front yard.

We got Lysimachia in yellow and green, Pena Sedum, plus Daddy transplanted another Pena Sedum with Isaak from the backyard to the front yard, a few Boxwood plants since we went up a zone, a Sedum and 2 Barberry plants. I know I'm missing something.

Mica had to pull the cart of plants - Even though it was heavy.

There was a ghost stand at the nursery, so Mica got his photo taken there.

Kindergarten Art

First off our breakfast was featured on Creative Mondays!

I try and enter a creative thing we're doing/have done on Mondays when possible. ClaireJustine and Judy H-J's have a Creative Monday Blog Hop. Just ClaireJustine features the creative things from the week before.

I'm putting up Isaak's drawings this week. I call them: Zeek's Sketches. Zeek is his nickname from birth.

Ever since Isaak started Kindergarten he's been into writing stories, and drawing pictures to go to the stories. Of course it's hard making out what he writes. Many of his words run from one word to another. It still is so cute. I love that he's into learning!

Here are a few of his drawings. I think they are really good for age 5!

They are walking their dog in both pictures.

Wearever Mattress Bed Pad With Wings Review

Isaak was a bed wetter. For the last year we have taken him to the bathroom right before we went to bed to prevent him from wetting the bed. When we took him he would go very well.

We asked him if he still wants us to wake him up to go? He said, "No." So we haven't since he started school. So far he's had no accidents. He's been in school for a little more than a month now.

I do know when kids get sick...
  • They are more likely to wet the bed
  • Puke on their bedding
  • Have diarrhea on their bedding
I really like Wearever Mattress Bed Pad With Wings!  It works great for when/if kids are going through periods of time where they are having potty accidents. It also works great for sick kids!

It also works great for adults that can't make it to the bathroom; like my Grandma that had Alzheimer's disease.

It's similar to the pads hospitals use on their beds. There is one key difference: It has wings to tuck into the mattress! The Wearever Mattress Bed Pad with Wings works perfect with any type of mattress such as a Sleeping Duck mattress. The added wing means the pad will stay!

I asked Isaak to hold the pad up, so he did. He wrapped it around himself and said, "I'm a girl." He's such a goof!

As you can see it's pretty large in size.

The things off to the sides are the wings that tuck into the bed.

It washed up really good. We haven't had any accidents yet. Knock on wood! I just think it may be a matter of time. I love having this product for when Mica and/or Isaak get sick!

How Used Total Nutrition

I said on the package that it can be mixed in water, with juice, or with your choice of milk. I used my bullet to mix up the Total Nutrition, 1 frozen banana, 1/4 cup flax seed and unsweetened almond milk.

I was envisioning the greens taking over the banana taste. I have to be honest I didn't read the ingredients before trying it. It has berries, and other things in that powder that are not green. I just wanted to give it a whirl. It was so good!
