Bass Pro Shop

The second part of our day (read the previous post because that's the first part) I wanted to be for the kids. I saw that Bass Pro Shop had advertised in the paper a kid's event. I knew the kids would love it.

They had a lot of little things for kids to do. The only sucky part was that it was all outside. The face paint was melting. All the kids were hot.

They had fun. No bitching occurred.

First they got their faces painted. Isaak had a spider painted on his face, and Mica had a mask to be Leonardo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Then we had the boys shoot BB guns. Mica was better at aiming than Isaak. Do not trust Isaak with a gun!

They also hunted for metal arrowheads with metal detectors, cast fishing poles with the attempt to have them land in buckets, spun a wheel for a little prize, and colored duck necklaces.

They got wore out.

Then they were over tired at bedtime.

Joslyn Art Museum

Yesterday was Daddy's Birthday. We were going to go out to dinner, then bowling. We did go out to get a bite to eat, but Daddy didn't eat a thing. He ate all day at work. His work often splurges on  food for Fridays. Especially before football games.

Insert eye roll here. Sorry I'm just not too into football. People get way into it here! All I hear this time of year is Huskers, Huskers, Nebraska Corn Huskers.

Out to dinner we went for Hubby's Birthday for no celebration really because he didn't eat a thing.

Then we went to go bowling. What was I thinking? No lanes were open. I had excited children, that quickly were disappointed. Clearly sports are not my thing. I didn't think of bowling having a season. They do.

Instead we rented a movie at Redbox. The boys got to bed super late!

Of course they still wake up at the same time as usual the next day.

Off and on Isaak was crying over things like being thirsty, or being tired of walking. Mica turned on the sass because he was tired.

The best medicine for kids is sleep.

Daddy wanted to go to Joslyn Art Museum. In my mind I thought with two cranky boys that love to wrestle this is just asking for a disaster of a time. Daddy insisted that we go because he hasn't gone in forever. We went.

While I did get a few pictures, I also heard a lot of, "Stop it!" Mica in particular walked fast from room to room. I'm afraid he's a fast walker even with a full nights sleep. Daddy said to me, "Why are you walking so fast?" I answered with, "Well one parent has to keep up with the boys." He was annoyed.

See how tired Isaak looks?

The boys liked Dale Chihuly's work.

Isaak liked Grant Wood's piece.

The best part was when we walked out of the museum and the boys played in this water area. The floor of it is shaped like a maze. That kept them entertained for a long while.

It is a great museum. It's free on Saturdays. They have classes for kids on Saturdays. There is a newish sculpture garden outside. I'm not trying to down play the museum. I just know my boys were tired!

Sing, Sing a Song Saturday

I started doing what I call Sing, Sing a Song Saturday.  I'm going to post one song on Saturdays that the boys or I like.

The song may be part of a movie, a kid's video or just a song we like. I'll try and include why we like it and/or the history of the song/singer.

Have you every heard of The Honey Trees? I've never heard of them, but they sound familiar. I used to listen to this band called The Sundays back in the 90s. They totally remind me of them.

The Honey Trees are a band made up of two people: Becky Filip and Jacob Wick. They are from Sacramento, California and San Louis Obispo, California. Their music is known to be dream pop.

Pork and Apples Oh My!

So I thought it would be fun to try slicing up apples, slitting pork tenderloin and putting the apples slices right in it to bake.

I thought it was really pretty good. It did take longer to bake; than what the directions said.

Once it came out of the oven Isaak said, "Awww...I don't want my apples like that!" Mica said, "I don't like cooked apples!"

Here I was excited about this meal. Everyone else was down in the dumps about it. Have you ever had that happen to you?

I made a big pan of veggies to. The veggies were: Zucchini, Tomatoes (out of our garden), an onion, a red bell pepper and a cove are garlic.

Party Time

Last weekend Mica had his friend party. His birthday was on August 10th. We decided to wait on his friend party because so many of his friend's moved from the directory we got when they were in Kindergarten. I figured we should let school start, so he could hand invites out. It worked out well waiting because my school starts at the same time as the boy's does. Hence I'm worn out, and my mind is all over the place that week before and week after.

It's kind of hard because one of his best friends has has parents that are divorced. Mica handed her two invites - one for Mom, and one for Dad. Well Dad never passed one invite onto Mom. I called her a few days ahead of time to see if she got it? Nope! I wish that they would communicate better just for their daughter's sake. Beyond that I don't care if they get along, or not. I think for awhile the Mom thought we were on the Dad's side. It was just because our kids would play on the playground after school with their kids. Who was there to pick them up? Their Dad. We didn't choose to have a side. It's just that he happened to be there. I don't really want to be friends with the parents. I just want Mica to be able to play with his friend.

We had pizza; since it was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle party. It is the turtle's favorite food after all. I cut up carrots and apples. Then we had fancy lemonade, in mason jars, with paper straws. I have got to get used to feeding the little guest less. My boys are skinny, and eat all the time! Other kids, not so much.

We also had cake.

A few of Mica's friends have siblings a year apart, so we invited them to. One of the siblings didn't come, but her older sister did. I was ok with that. I had her put on the kid's fake tattoos. She helped with other things as well. I think she really likes us.

We set up the water slide AKA old movie posters. They had a whole lot of fun with that.

Then they did a water balloon PiƱata. This was all pretty similar to Mica's party last year.  New kids came, old kids didn't, so it worked out.

I had Mica fill out thank you cards prior to the event. I just had him write, "Dear so and so, Thank you for coming to my party. I appreciate the blank. - Mica" Then I just wrote in what he got as he opened them. The thank you cards were dropped into their gift bags. Inside the gift bags they got a TMNT pen, a paper mask and animal crackers. I tried to stay as practical as possible.

I'll have to think of something different for next year for Mica. Maybe repeat it for Isaak's party. It's pretty easy. We have a big back yard for them to run and play.

WW: Creations of the week {Linky}

Isaak had been making hand made puppets. He made them for Mica's friend birthday party that was on Saturday. I don't think Mica appreciated all the work that went into them though. Older brothers can be like that some times.

Some have googly eyes, some have marker eyes. Then he tore apart  popsicle sticks to to hold them up; attached them with tape.

I just love his creativity!

I made a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Cake for Mica's friend party. I was going to make his scarf/mask thing red. I guess Mica doesn't like that turtle as much as the others. To me it's cake. It all tastes the same. I guess in a kid's world it matters.

The cake was 2 round cakes layered on top of one another. I don't even frost between them. I just let the freezer stick them together. The sides were slightly cut. The cut pieces went on for his nose area. I used an orange fruit roll-up for his mask, dark chocolate ships for the eyes, 1/2 a red candy melt for the tongue and the rest was frosting.

I just always thought TMNT were an odd mix. What's usually considered slow turtles are ninjas. Then they like pizza. It's all so odd to me. My boys love them though.

What did you make this week?

Girls are so Hard to Understand!

This is a follow up post from the previous one.

Today I asked Isaak, "How was school today?"

Isaak said, "It was good Mom. But I don't understand...Maddie the girl that played kitties with me at recess last week wouldn't play with me today. The teacher moved her desk away from mine to. I don't know why she wouldn't play with me."

I said, "First of all in Kindergarten they move desks around a lot. It's so you can get to know other kids, and it helps the teacher to know who you work well with. Second, did you ask her why she wouldn't play with you?"

He said, "Maddie said, 'I found some new friends.' But then she said I'm still her friend."

Oh the heart breaks, and trying to understand girls at the age of five.

I Just Couldn't Keep a Straight Face

Someone asked me this funny face was Photoshoped? I assure you it is not. I've been able to make this face since I was in the 6th grade. One time I made it, intending on making a little kid smile, or laugh. Well he started crying. Then I had to explain to his Mom that I made a face at him intending on making him smile. It didn't work. I felt awful. So...I don't make this face at random kids anymore.

To make the crazy lip face you take your top lip, move it to one side, bottom lip and move it to the other side, and softly bite down. I can make them move as well.

In all seriousness I had trouble keeping a straight face when I was talking with Isaak this weekend. It was more trouble with refraining on laughing my ass off; then making a silly face.

I was talking with Isaak about his friends at school. They now have names! They are no longer defined by their teeth color.

Isaak got in trouble on Friday. He squirted juice at his friend Jacob. He had to sit out on the bench at recess. Mica went up to Isaak and asked, "Why are you sitting on the bench, and not playing?" That's when Isaak told him about the juice. I don't know if Isaak would have told us about him getting in trouble, or not? Mica just blurted it out. Otherwise it may have gone under the rug, so to speak.

Well he was already punished. We didn't make too big of a deal out of the situation. We just talked to him.

Then Isaak said, "I better make Jacob an apology letter!" It wasn't our idea.

Isaak sat down and wrote, "Sorry squirtin Jacob I love you gjuice." He drew a picture, folded it, and put fake stamps on it.

Mica yelled out, "You can't say, 'love' in school Isaak!" Isaak said, "But I do love him. I love all my friends and family."

I just shook my head and said, "It's the thought that counts. If teachers are going to have a problem with it they can choose not to give it to Jacob." I wrote in Isaak's back to school folder that Isaak took it upon himself to write an apology letter to Jacob for squirting juice on him. The teacher can do as she pleases.

Isaak told me he has another friend he plays with at recess. Her name is Maddie. Now Isaak for the past year has said that he doesn't like girls. He only likes the girls he knows. Mica on the other hand never thought girls had cooties.

I said, "What do you and Maddie play with at recess?"

Isaak said, "Kitties! We play kitties. I just love kitties!" He let out a few purr sounds, acted like he was holding a cat, and petting it.

I just about lost it. I was fighting back laughter. Isaak didn't look pleased with the fact that I let out a chuckle. I tried my best not to laugh.

Super Dog

Isaak made a cape for his doggie. That cape didn't exist before. He asked for tape and other things to make this doggie into a super dog.
